Turning a corner

21 June 2013

The past few weeks have been good.  Still everyday is faced with different challenges and hurdles but I seem to be coping well with what is thrown at me.

For example, yesterday I was thrown a fast ball after my first session of the day and was involved in a stretcher run after lunch.  The only saving grace is that the pace is so slow due to the hills and steps I managed to walk/light jog for much of it – still draining though.  A 20 something km piece followed early evening which was hard graft.

I seem to have settled into training much better now and my body seems to be coping well (save last weekend). The pace is coming up on the distance pieces which is good in one way but the down side means I have to pull harder for longer! This mornings 26km became a real slog as fatigue set in before the half way mark.

A mid week scare as I went over on my ankle simply walking along a corridor.  It is a weak spot that has been inverted a number of times of the years.  Thankfully this time it was a case of some swelling and loss of mobility and a bit of pain.

That days rowing was touch and go as I lost flexion of the ankle so the catch and finish was a bit precarious. It seems ok though so will move on.

I have the general aches and pains in my back/shoulders and my arse is pretty worn! Lots of spots and blisters appearing which need some careful attention if not to get infected etc (pictures on request team!).

Wednesday was a planned rest day due to work commitments so I will train through the weekend bringing the distance up nicely.

Like I said after a tough few months settling in and juggling the demands od training, work and family I really feel I am getting somewhere now.  I plan on keeping it that way.
