Another set back today.
After seeing specialists yesterday, today I felt good and aimed to carry on with some light distance. Yesterday I had managed a light 12km following Tuesdays 15km. However I did HD after getting some twinges shortly after the 12km point (the aim was 18km with short rests).
This morning I lasted all of a 3 minute warm up before getting some discomfort and complaints from the hinging movement the stroke provides. I hopped off and heading down to the gym to the stationary bike but again lasted just 2 minutes before heading home again with ever growing complaints in my lower back.
Before making it to the house I went into spasm again – a lot lighter than the past week or so but enough to stop me in my tracks. The main issue is the inflammation in the problem sight that has not got a chance to settle and heal as I keep going back to it too early.
Plan B
I now will take another 3 days complete rest (after today) in which I know the back will once again settle but then return only to the bike to avoid the hinging of the hips and back. I don’t envisage returning to the erg much before another 10 days or so. This needs to heal and I am losing time and losing all my hard worked gains. Hopefully I can cycle and avoid aggravating the back as it attempts to heal in the mean time.
With race season looming this is seriously demoralising, however I refuse to get down and be beaten by this setback. I will now focus all my energy on mending myself and then the next step which will be cycling back to the erg and regaining my fitness.
Frustrated is the under statement of the year…….
