I seem to have fallen short of reporting sessions; let’s have a catch up to get back in date.
After last weeks mid week 750’s I hit some routine back work starting with the deadlift. I’m still having issues here, struggling to engage my hamstrings which loads all the pressure on to my lower back. Work continues with the strengthening of the posterior chain to try and address this issue. One of my hip flexors also remains tight as hell and is a constant daily battle to keep it from shortening and tightening up.
However, I finished the lifting week with the over head press and some shoulder assistance work and then made an on the spot decision to do some ‘conditioning’ work on the erg. I didn’t fancy a real session as I was keen to hit the 750’s again on Saturday, so dialled in this months CTC which was 15×1 [1r]. A very conservative effort just doing enough to get some movement in but with 3 bursts on the 5th, 10th and 15th minute which came out in the 1.23’s/1.24’s.
Feeling composed on Saturday I rowed my first race warm up of the season which is just over 5km with some progressive bursts. I then tackled the 750 race pace type intervals with a target to simply be faster than the last session. I had to work hard on it, but finally feel like I have made some progress and came away with something that represents sub 6.20. Plus it was rowed on a tired body so would like to think if I can stay together with 2 weeks to run and with a few more sessions and taper, I could pull another few 10ths out the bag.
4×750 [3r] 1.33.6
This week started with some squats and leg work on Monday which felt pretty rubbish and so heavy, still suffering with fatigued legs from the weekend’s effort. This was shortly followed by my weekly aerobic piece and this time a simple 2×15 minutes.
The plan is to finish this peak lifting week then use the de-load week next week as a decent push on the erg. Then a small taper should see me right. I had a think about the idea of a 2k given that I haven’t done one in over a year since last years RN Championships, but what am I going to learn? Not a lot, plus it would be a waste of a speed session in my eyes.
Time to squeeze out every metre and every second in this final push.
