A turn of events at work meant that I was able to make a last minute entry to the season opener in Bristol. With the decision being made just 8 days before, I had to get some speed sessions in my legs to see where I am more than anything.
Q asked me to do a big shock tactic to the system and row 3 maximal red sessions in 4 days, the last being just 4 days before race day. Although my pace got quicker through each session by the end of it I was pretty wiped out. In hindsight dropping the last one or cutting it short may have been better.
Either way, with just a few weeks rowing training under my belt I turned up and was pleased to come away sub 6.20 winning my heat and taking silver overall. I was more pleased with my 1km just 90 mins after the 2km race, pulling 2.58, then a 500m [I cant remember the 500m time, maybe 1.24]. It gave me silver overall in the Men’s 30-39 Heavyweight.
