‘Technically’ it’s not a missed session

9 August 2013

The week has flown by and if I am honest I don’t feel like I have used my time that wisely.  It is getting towards the end of term now at work before the summer break. This means the work load has lightened, but I have failed to take the opportunity to pounce on some bonus metres/sessions and harder training.

Wednesday saw the usual UT1 type piece go through without any hiccups.  This is a nice chance to stretch the legs and not be in any discomfort as it is short enough at 10km to make the session reasonably enjoyable.

Thursday we headed into some steady interval training just shy of race pace sort of work as a way of introducing some sharper AT training ahead of the next few cycles going into race season.  I sort of enjoyed them but it was bloody hard, harder than I had expected, I seemed to make them into something they are not – others cracked through well above expected pace with no problem. I think I just had an off day and didn’t go into it with the right frame of mind and it bit me.  A stark reminder of the interval pieces that will eventually come in race season!

In the afternoon I finally got into the weights room having missed Monday’s S&C session having felt weak with a slight stomach complaint.  A good period this time and stuck to upper body work to get done what was needed.

This morning back into the weights room to finish off the lower body and was in and out quickly with warm up, dynamic stretch, heavy squats, cool down and out.

The intention was to pop in some distance work this afternoon, but I kind of found myself getting home and sitting down for a coffee, then never really got up again! By the time I did decide to get up from the sofa and watching TV it was time to do the school run and the shopping.

However, I am still on to complete 100% erg sessions this week with the usual weekend work ahead, so technically it is not a missed session – it just means I won’t rest on Sunday.  Without looking at the diary I don’t think I have had a rest day for a couple of weeks now, so am happy enough with today’s adapting.

Next week needs to be of a decent workload as I am soon to be away for around 7 days on holiday. On my return I have a 12 day training camp lined up which will then take us into 6 weeks pre competition date (Bristol) and time to stretch the legs.

Train hard, train smart.

Cheers all.
