The Cost of Waiting – This one hurt to write

19 March 2026

The picture above was the last photo I ever took with my dad.

8 weeks later, he was gone.

He didn’t die suddenly.

He didn’t die from something unexpected.

He died from years of unmanaged health.

He died from waiting for the right time.

Weight gain. Sedentary behaviour. Stress. Workload. And the same BS thing I hear every week from leaders:

“I’ll deal with it when things calm down.”

They never did.

And that’s the point.

For those who have heard me deliver The High-Performance Operator briefing, you’ll know this story.

You’ll know what it looked like.

The gradual decline. The loss of energy. The change in identity. The toll it took on him. And the impact it had on the family.

Because poor health doesn’t just affect the individual.

It affects everyone around them.

“Health doesn’t fail overnight. It degrades quietly until it takes everything.”

Losing my dad wasn’t just personal.

It was a turning point.

It removed any illusion I had about how serious this actually is.

This isn’t about fitness.

It isn’t about looking better.

And it isn’t about motivation.

This is about RISK.

Unmanaged health is one of the biggest risks facing leaders and organisations today.

Not theoretical risk.

Real, measurable, compounding risk.

  • Reduced decision-making quality
  • Increased fatigue and cognitive strain
  • Emotional volatility under pressure
  • Loss of consistency and reliability
  • Increased absence and long-term health issues

And in the worst cases…

It ends everything.

“If you ignore health long enough, it stops being a personal issue and becomes a business risk.”

This is why Warrior Wellness Movement exists.

We are not a cultural change consultancy.

We are not learning and development.

And we are not another wellbeing initiative.

We operate at the level of risk.

Risk mitigation for:

The individual. The leadership team. The organisation.

Because once you’ve seen what unmanaged health does over time …

You stop talking about it as a “nice to have”.

You treat it for what it is.

A non-negotiable.

“You don’t wait for the right time to manage risk. You act before it becomes irreversible.”

The uncomfortable question is this.

How long are you willing to wait?
