Christmas shopping and a 30 minute open HR

Now I’m sure most men will agree that Christmas shopping is a painful experience and even more painful going with a women as they tend to take a long time and like trying things on lots before returning to the original shop. Sound familiar?

Going with Mrs O is painful but for different reasons. She tends to walk at a rapid pace that I can only compare to speed walking and whilst holding hands she tends to tow me along like a puppy (I swear she has longer legs than me). Then we power around shops disregarding anyone or anything that gets in her way and what’s more I am not allowed to look at anything for amore than a nano second before getting whisked out and towed around again. If I do find something I want I am not allowed to buy it if the queue is bigger than anything that is going to take 1 minute.

It was a fun afternoon.

Anyway into tonight’s row. Out into the garage wrapped up warm for the 4km warm up with small bursts then set off.

On the cards was a 30 minute rate restricted 28 piece but with an open HR giving me licence to work as hard as I saw fit. Not having done much middle distance work of late and not fancying a death session I decided a conservative consistent split should be the target.

I set of and settled on 1.44-1.45 which felt nice and fluffy with no problems and then squeezed on the last 5 minutes. For sure working hard but on finishing was happy to row out into a cool down immediately.

I have these pieces every week now for 4 weeks and hope to turn my best into a TT as I don’t have a 30 minute PB. Rate restricted 28 was nice until the last 6 minutes or so when I could have done with rate 30 if I wanted to smash it and especially going into the last 2 minutes. (Will ask the boss).
