So because of last weeks mid week melt down and a tinker in the schedule due to enforced rest i am on day 4 this week (trained on Sunday).
Monday
An early start as always and into intervals at 7.30am. Usual problems with a stuffy gym (still no fans) so stripped down to bear minimum.
Session 2 at 5pm was a 15k HR capped row. Choose a different venue (rehab centre) but just as hot if not hotter. Really becoming a buggerance with all the HR training as the pace suffers dramatically. Plodded through and as always tied to focus on technique and being as efficient as possible.
Worked late and got to bed way past bed time!
Was an effort trying to eat enough all day and seem to be dropping weight at the moment. Fluctuating between 96-97kg. Need to stay on top and am loading up on MCT’s, fruit and nuts at the moment in between meals.
Tuesday
Felt negative today and was in a bit of can’t be arsed mood. Dragged myself up at 6.30 to get in session 1 (weights) as i knew i had a busy day at work. Got a good 45 minute session in hitting some front squats and stiff leg dead lifts plus some push and pull compound moves. Hit the wall 15 minutes before the end as the session was pre breakfast. Kicked myself as i knew i should have eaten before bed – really need to get a grip of this eating enough malarkey.
Loaded up all day with food whilst rushing around at work with lessons etc. Put off training as late as possible to enable me to eat more and prolong the period between the morning weights session. The only problem with this is the later you leave it the more you don’t want to do it. Considered just going to bed and leaving the session for another day. Got a grip of myself and headed in for the warm up at 8pm. Dragged the erg outside as the temperature had dropped significantly.
What a difference this makes!
PB’d the session – 18k (3x6k) 90 secs rest HR capped at 75% HRR. Couldn’t believe the pace i was able to pull, especially on the first set. Even thought the was a fault with the HR monitor. Comfortably pulling 1.52 with HR well under – maxed at 145. Thought maybe the second and third set would go back to snails pace but it didn’t. Sailed through all sub 1.55 pace at rate 18/19.
So delighted with my progress headed off to re fuel and a quick 10 minutes in the swimming pool to cool down and stretch. Thought the cool water might help my DOMS but the water wasn’t cool enough.
Got to bed around 11pm and was up again at 5.30am for lessons.
Wednesday
Today was a great day. An early teach and a morning of eating before heading down to Dart Totnes RC to send 2 others out in a pair. I had a date with a 30r20 and had scheduled it in the RC training room. Had decided to row it on an old model C which was lovely compared to the battered old things we have at work. The re coil assembly is tight, the seat slides well and it sounds lovely!
With painful DOMS (especially back, traps and legs) i hit the fletcher 5k warm up. HR was high and decided by the end there was no way i would PB. I get quite nervous before these weekly sessions and treat them like any test piece. Opened up all the windows and doors to keep the room as cool as possible and set off.
Decided i was going to pull my PB average split for as long as possible and see what happens. Sat on 1.46.3 for 27 minutes then gave 60 max effort strokes to bring the average under for a PB – simple!
As always bloody hurt, considered HD with 10 minutes to go, grinded on and loved it!
Average came through at 1.45.9 8498 metres. 2 metres short of target – gutted!
Sat in the river for 10 minutes afterwards to try and shift some DOMS and lactic – got some funny looks. Drove home, time to eat and sleep!
Easy 15k tomorrow – sounds quite appealing after that.
