Wow what a privilege! I rowed today in my garage in the fresh air with a solid still platform under me, shame about the performance!
Some hypertrophy based back work last night, nothing crazy but just enough to provide some mild stimulus. It may be a case of maintenance training for the coming weeks at home before I get to a gym, but that’s probably not a bad thing. Strength training is not possible as I don’t have the correct equipment. I’ll pick the Jim Wendler 5-3-1 up in 3 weeks time once back in a gym – I can’t wait! I want to use this method of training for a significant period of time with strength been my training priority right now.
Anyway, this morning I got on the erg to find a starting point. I have an idea [notice I said ‘idea’ and not ‘goal’] of racing in early November at the Royal Navy Championships, but am only prepared to put in quite literally 2 ergs a week as conditioning sessions to supplement strength and hypertrophy weight training which as mentioned above is my main focus for now. I will play it casual for a while and see how much speed I can pick up in a short amount of time. My idea is that I will only race if I think I can win it and from previous experience I have an idea of what time that will require. That said I need to do some homework and find out who’s hot and who’s not on the RN circuit. New faces are always popping up and having been away this year I am unsure of who is who right now.
So today was erg day and I have decided to stick to the classic 6x1min [1r] for a few sessions. Seemed to find the right pace and was best effort finishing consistent on 1.32.5 average. Ok it’s a million miles from my glorious past, but was just pleased to come away unscathed and with a good conditioning workout under my belt.
My health and general well being continues to improve from decent food and eating under my own timings. Long may it continue!
Cheers.
