Step by step

15 October 2015

So far so good on what is turning into a pretty decent week. After Monday’s 30 minute grind it was time to test the water on some 750 pieces. I was pretty nervous all morning leading up to them as I knew it would sting, plus I have not done this session in over a year. I had last weeks 500’s pace as a guide and actually managed to get the pacing right.

I was fortunate to have the company of a training partner again, with whom I discussed intensity of certain sessions. Knowing the difference between absolute max effort and 95% work. We’ve been here before right?

With that in mind I set off at a slightly more conservative pace which seemed to work and after the 2nd rep knew I had got it right. I seemed in control,  but was having to work very close to the limit,  don’t get me wrong this was tough.

My lack of aerobic work still stands out a mile, but that’s why I need to bring these slightly longer race pace intervals into play. I plan on getting another handful in over the coming weeks and would certainly like to nudge them on a fraction before race day.

Finished strong but tough and the recovery was tolerable.

In other news my deadlift is coming along step by step, but still requires a lot of work. Hip flexors remain an issue.
