We are well into the final taper now as I sit here writing from my hotel room in Boston, USA. I can’t believe how quick the year has been as it seems like yesterday Q, Carolyn and I were here racing in 2013.
I went through some final speed work preparations on Sunday night before heading up to Q’s on Monday. A light evening session under the watchful eye of the coach just keeping it light and looking at some starting practice. We travelled on Tuesday, taking in a pleasant and quiet flight arriving just after lunchtime local time well rested.
As expected I was up at 0300 local time this morning so it was a case of sitting it out with some pre prepared food before heading to breakfast just after 0600. We are staying in a different hotel this year (Marriot) and I have to say so far it is quite impressive. Everything you need is here shared amongst its 38 floors and 2 joining shopping malls. The only thing missing so far is the 24 training ergs that were suppose to be set up this morning – kind of a key component missing as I sit here waiting for there arrival so I can crack on with a sharpening session. All being well we can get into the erg room this afternoon (preferably with ergs) and then on the arrival of some of the other Q-Power athletes grab some dinner before the remainder of the team arrives tomorrow.
The seeds were released yesterday with what looks like one of the strongest Men’s 30-39 Heavyweight race in recent years. With potentially 8 athletes out of 60 entrants boasting sub 6.10 2k’s this leaves me as the 6th seed It promises to be yet another tough memorable race – certainly an exciting one for the neutrals to watch.
It’s nearly time …..
