I was scheduled to get a 2km TT in over the coming weeks but after Saturdays 30 min confidence booster I checked and bought the 2km forward to this week. Last night I bought it forward again to this morning so I could get it done and move on with the training week.
Felt pretty nervous this morning as is the case with most 2k’s and settled down in the sauna that was the garage. Looked for a spot outside to set up but couldn’t find any shade and didn’t want to be sat in the beating sun.
Nerves were still playing with me as I tried to settle into the warm up but it was a horrid warm up – the handle felt heavy, bursts were unsettled and hard, ended up rowing out past 7km to try and keep a lid on it. An 8 minute wait to gain some composure and have a word with myself and then set off.
I tried to settle after 100m but it seemed a bit hit and miss, trying to keep the handle light and find a rhythm I found it around 500m. We had a plan for the 1km marker and then see what was happening.
Breaking the row down seemed easy and was happy to sit on pace through the middle part. The third 500m went through and then bite came on the legs. I had 2 options now 1) start a decent push or 2) just sit it out.
I chose option 2 because to be honest I was happy with the average split and didn’t fancy burying it – don’t get me wrong it was bloody tough at this point but with less than 90 secs to go I was in full control so I waited.
At 250m I decide it was time to open up so head down and kept it long and powerful.
Crossing the line my quads were screaming and I had to hobble around to recover. A tough row but a controlled one at that. Pleased with the pacing although it took me a while to find it, plenty of power to show at the end.
2km 6.12.8
On with the new training cycle.
