It’s been a bit of a party weekend over the Bank Holliday catching up with friends and family. It was fun, but I suffered when it was all over. Eating was back on track as I picked up the training again last night with some 6×1 minutes. After last weeks progress but then the weekends shenanigans I knew I couldn’t SB, so decided to sit on old 2km pace and came in with a squeeze on the last rep. Hard enough and was pleased to just get back on the erg and do some work.
Today I wanted to row a 30 minute r18 70% piece purely out of interest to see how it compared to old pace. 1.59.6 was the answer, but man alive it was dull! Was going to HD after 15 and get on with some work, but sat it out for 20 minutes and then thought might as well finish it. How I used to do 18k’s and beyond I’ll never know!
After it was some time for my WOD and the Bear Complex. A tough work out if chosen with a challenging enough weight and certainly something as a marker for me to move on with. I vaguely remember doing something like this a few years back but had to look it up to remember the sequence.
- Power clean
- Front squat
- Push press
- Back squat
- Push press
That’s all 1 rep. [7 times through for 7 reps].
The workout is 5 sets of 7 reps [7 reps without putting the bar down]. I took around 1-2 minutes in between sets, enough to grab my breath back and go again with decent form.
I started on 50kg for 1 set before dropping to a more realistic 40kg for the final 4 sets. Hard work and good fun.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Don’t forget the new Indoor Rowing League is up and running again http://indoorrowers.org/en/ thanks to Sebastien Chaumiole.
