Anthropometric results

28 August 2012

Last night saw some interesting team e mails looking at athletes’ anthropometric stats. We looked at wing span, height and sitting height and came to the conclusion that a ‘freak like’ set up is good! I.e. long arms, long legs and short body.

My results:-

Although I am 6’2 (which is still relatively short for a HWT rower) I am even more disadvantaged with even shorter legs and a ridiculously tall torso. To make it worse my arm length is ‘normal’ and the same as my height. If only I had taken up swimming – swimmers tend to have a large torso and short legs – although I would have to lose some weight first.

Now then the next task is to find a way to increase leg length – I am open to ideas.

Having checked with the boss I got my wish of adding a bit more time/metres to today’s session. Being off work on leave at the moment I may as well get a few more metres under my belt as I am well rested and spent most of the day surfing the net, sleeping and eating. However Mrs O is on to me and I feel a whole line of jobs around the house coming my way!

On with today’s training – 18k (3x6k) with short little legs. Time to get some distance at a low HR cap of 70% at low rate 18.

Enjoyed a productive session averaging 1.56.2 EPOC topping 74 which is good.

Tomorrow is 30r20 – could go one of two ways.
