I am pleased that we now have some steady progress to report as the days tick down to the 2014 World Championships. With the disappointment of the British Championships well and truly behind me I have used that stumbling block along with recent injury scares to really push the physical boundaries.
On returning from last weekends racing in Cornwall I was thrown straight back in to the red and asked to push on. Some 500’s bought back some speed as the adaptations nick away at the body every single day. This set was comfortable and gives me the confidence that I am back to under 6.10 form and nudging on PB territory. That along with the harsh training schedule that Q is delivering is putting me quicker and quicker each day.
A few mixed days followed and then some back to back brutal sessions that involved a purpose build fly and die session followed the next day by another complete overload to really ask the body to change. Q set out his instructions of what he wanted from the sessions so I really focused on throwing myself into them with a ‘don’t think, just do’ attitude. I find you have to be in the right frame of mind to inflict that much discomfort upon yourself but often or not you have just got to get on with it without thinking.
Thankfully today is a light one and I will grind through a steady 18km or so later before heading back into the red tomorrow. Next week and beyond is not much different as we look to push and push, looking to squeeze out every last bit of speed before a taper.
After a few tough weeks, illness, back problems, missed sessions finally I look to be back on track. I make it World Championships – 24 days.
It’s now time to become a nuisance.
