It’s been a few weeks since I blogged – mainly because I have been getting my head down and getting on with some quality training.
I took 2 days off from training after the British Championships and then got back to business. A few steady weeks juggling the usual daily challenges of work, family and training but some decent sessions on the erg and the start of a new strength block in the weights room. Back to over 100km last week and a good mix of intensity and rate etc.
One PB to report on mid last week. This was only my 3rd 5km TT and was on tired legs so was unsure about pacing. A pretty brutal distance trying to find the fine line of ‘on the edge’ but with a ‘wind up’ in the last 1km or so. Went ok but probably had too much left in the last 1km – felt like I was on the edge throughout though, but more likely mind than body.
5km PB – 16.21.3
The new cycle marks the start of the speed work build up to the World Championships in less than 8 weeks. I aim to blog my sessions and the drama as it happens and stay more up to date. Having reflected on the initial part of the season I have decided it is time to start enjoying the journey more with the aim of learning as I look to the future.
For me the pressure of the season is now off. I have hit my initial goal of sub 6.10 and a race 2k time [6.07] that I would have taken at the beginning of the season. I also know that realistically I am no-where near Gold medal potential for the Worlds. With that in mind Boston 14’ will be another stepping stone and am determined to enjoy it and be myself – from there I can then gain the necessary experience both positive and negative and take it into years to come.
As for now it is Christmas week and am enjoying some family down time and a beer or two.
Merry Christmas all. Thanks for reading.
