I didn’t realise it had been 2 weeks or so since I blogged last, that wasn’t intentional as I wish to stay current with my training and journey. I have started a new job down in the West Country which seems a million miles from anywhere and they appear to be lacking in technology down here, mainly in phone signal and internet. I’m sure they’ll catch up by 2025 or maybe even sooner!
Cracking place to work though and an incredible gym set up with everything you would ever need, plus quantity and space too – it’s a trainer’s paradise to be fair, a complete contrast to my last 12 months of training environment hell. Work seems pretty decent too so could be a very productive few years down here.
Ok back to training, last week was a de-load week on the strength work and a chance to look at my deadlifts which don’t seem to be right. Some expert eyes amongst my peers and a good chance for them to have a look and a make a few tweaks, hopefully for the good and with an introduction of the GHD bench [Glute Hamstring Developer] which I am pretty pathetic at (as predicted).
Rowing wise last week was bloody miserable. I blew out after 6 reps on 8x500m on Monday and then revisited on Wednesday with the sole aim of getting 8, which I did but was a sorry tale. On Friday I decided to get 30 mins work done so tapped in 3×10 minutes and rowed a near top end type piece, but in control.
After a busy weekend I got on with 4x2k’s on Monday which felt semi decent and today I final nailed 8×500’s [90r] in 1.34.0. It was a tough session and I almost psyched myself out before hand as I knew it was going to be a long innings. However, not feeling like the same near death experience I had encountered over the past few episodes I came in with a squeeze on the last 2 reps to bring the average down and finish well. Still incredibly tough though and certainly some confidence gained both mentally and physically.
I’m back in to week 1 off the new lifting cycle so will ramp the intensity up over the come weeks. Rowing will remain the same, 3 sessions a week but probably with variation I have found this week which is 1 or 2 speed type sessions and 1 longer anaerobic threshold type piece.
Since being back in the UK for 7 weeks I seem to have found a knack of one to many socials at the weekends. Time to wind that in and get on with a more serious outlook on lifestyle and training if I want to progress.
Squatting day tomorrow – should be fun.
