‘Good things come to those who wait’ – who said that? Maybe i should add it to my list off favourite quotes.
A nice test piece today re-visiting what i had done last Sunday (blog.php?u=15923&b=95830) but this time fixing the errors.
Wanted something challenging with lactic build up but not too horrible as time is getting closer, when i stumbled across this one on Big Daves Blog (many thanks).
1500m – 12 rest
1000m – 10 rest
500m – 6 rest
1 min – finished!
Now to look at first i thought hmm thats a long rest but in reality it fits perfect into what i want in 2k prep. Lactic build up and lots of rest as not to kill yourself 8 days out from race day.
And here is how it went:-
1500m – 1.34.7 (race pace rehersal)
1000m – 1.34.6 (race pace rehersal)
500m – 1.31.2 (pushed on last 200 after race pace rehersal)
1 min – 1.22.4 (flat out or there abouts!)
For me the most important piece was the first 1500m. Got the start right and settled at race pace and with what would be 500m to go i was sub 6.20 and reckon on the day had 50 strong strokes left in me. Ok so my legs were building lactic fast but i felt good and am confident i could have gone up 2-3 more gears in the home straight.
Really pleased as i was around 1.34.5 at WIRC 2011 with 500m to go so knew it was on.
Massive massive confidence boost leading into days rest tomorrow. Stinking cold has nearly faded out – just the last few sniffles popping up every now and then.
Good upper body weights session yesterday and a swim in the morning. Swam this morning for recovery too.
Took an ice bath on the legs for ten minutes just now after session – bit of a man test at first but your legs soon adapt to the cold!
Sunday prob a recovery type UT2 30 mins and stretch.
One more lactic session Mon (might be that pyramid again) then a small weights session begining of week and then 5 days short sprints with long rests.
Quite a turn around having gone from maybe a 6.20 to a possible PB – maybe i am over confident but f**k it – i feel good!
Rest, eat, sleep!
