I am on summer leave for the next 3 weeks so intend to use it to my advantage with some quality training.
Today was a great beginning starting where I left off last week but fresher and hungrier.
Around 9am this morning came session #1. Having enjoyed getting my boy ready for school (something I miss out on in the week as I leave early for work/training) I set up for a steady 15km distance piece at a HR cap of 70% and low rate 18 spm.
Went reasonably well and plodded along without compromising to much pace in the heat (very hot but nice and clear so not to muggy) at 1.56.3 average.
Had a productive day sorting out neglected paperwork at home (I am rarely home in the week for any significant time apart from preparing meals, sleeping and seeing family) so managed to get on top of things – even managed to keep the house tidy to keep Mrs O happy (early days yet – got 3 weeks still!).
Enjoyed a 30 minute power nap on the sofa after catching up on a double bill of match of the day before heading into town for a few jobs.
Back to father/husband duties in the evening before heading out to the garage around 8.30pm in the disappearing light to hit session #2 power intervals.
15 x 500m at rate 20 (1 minute rest)
Now I stuck with last weeks successful philosophy of breaking down the session and focusing on relative goals to the piece. Some of the goals were amended a few sets in as I wasn’t sure on how it would feel.
– consistency
– efficiency
– power
– recovery (aim to recover and get a grip of myself early on)
– target split sub 1.39.9 (set after first 3 sets)
I didn’t go off like a mad man but eased in with last weeks average of 1.40.5 in my mind. The first few sets would shape the session and as stated above after 3 sets sub 1.40 was the target. As usual I played a few mind games to break the pieces down but tried to focus on one at a time.
Finished with an impressive 1.36.5 all out rate 20 500m to bring the average in at 1.39.1
After last weeks onslaught and two great days resting I feel fresh and relaxed going into this recovery week.
2 more sessions before I attempt a 10km TT at row24 on Thursday afternoon whilst Paul is slogging away probably in hour – I am sure I can amuse him for 34 minutes or so!

Business as usual.
Cheers.
