I have not missed you

28 October 2013

6 Sept 2012 was the last time I did a 30r20 – it turned out to be a PB.  This morning it was time to introduce these little treats back into the training – I can’t say I have missed them.

For those who have never done one it is really hard to explain. It’s not like any other TT, for example a 30 min free rate where you can keep the rate up to ease the pressure which of course brings on a heavy lactic build up in the legs.  The 30r20 hurt in a different way.  Time tends to stand still as each stroke has to remain in the capped rate of 20, the recovery slide still isn’t long enough as the pressure increases and you try to catch your breath before slamming the legs down hard and driving off again.

I rode out a consistent pace until the last 7 minutes when I bought the pressure on a bit more to nudge the average down.  It was so uncomfortable but that’s the nature of the beast I suppose.  The only saving grace is the recovery at the end is quick as there is limited lactic build up, it’s more like a tiredness feeling through sheer exertion from the power endurance.

To be honest one of the reasons I don’t like these is because I know I am never going to be particularly quick at them. I would say it suits the bigger longer legged athletes with a long drive. Something I will never have.

Next one is next week.  I’ll be honest, I’m not overally excited.
