I’m still winning

3 November 2013

Today I took a complete rest day and spent some time with the family and tried to switch off from training – it was hard.

Since Bristol I have trained every day, albeit some of the sessions have been low volume recovery rows and two of the days pure weight training days.  However the volume has nudged up again bearing in mind we are still some way of primary peak (World Championships – February).

That said the aim is to remain sharp and control the loss of any peak in preparation to hit the British Championships in good form in 34 days time. The 3 weeks leading up to that will require just a few speed sessions and some liveners to bring back any lost pace (and hopefully a bit more).

Before that I have the small matter of the Royal Navy/Royal Marines Championships next Thursday in Portsmouth. There will be no preparation specifically for this apart from a reduced volume light session the day before.  I expect to be carrying training fatigue into the race but will be looking for pure experience and practice in the build up plus in the execution of the race.

Also I am pleased to be cracking on with weight training again having spent around 11 weeks out of the weights room (due to injury).  I am now fighting again to bring back on some decent weight and reduce body fat. (Since stopping weight training I have lost around 2kg body weight and increased body fat by 4%).

Apart from that it has been back to business and the ever struggle of the work, family, training, resting juggling game.  So far I seem to be winning.

May it continue…….
