Peak week halfway–conditions tough

10 October 2012

As the title suggests I am halfway through peak week and conditions have been tough.  Largely down to the heating being turned on in the sauna gym and little air circulating.  The last few days have felt awfully humid and wet so no erging outside.

I have been brinking on the edge of a cold for a while now but was given the go ahead to continue training as normal this week.  Throat slightly sore and flemy but all under control.  Eating well and sleep is ok.

Felt good after Mondays 8x500m intervals with a massive improvement in pace which was nice to see especially as it was more controlled and not a death session like 14 days prior.

Yesterday was a basic 4x2km HR capped at 80% which stopped any discomfort but was painfully slow in the sweat box.

Then onto todays 60 minute piece at rate 22-24 but HR capped at 85%.  Quite a costly session with an EPOC of around 250.  Didn’t want to do it, thought of every excuse under the sun not to.  In the end sat down warmed up and set off.  Wasn’t sure on pacing and should have hit the HR cap sooner but steadied out well and cruised through in 1.49.1 pace.  Was hard graft because of the rate cap and feel pretty beat up now but all good training.  Erg had formed a swimming pool underneath by the end, stopped on 4 occasions for a 10-15 second swig of water – didn’t want too but was losing massive amounts of fluid so thought it was wise.

Sent out a team e mail earlier as a mid week progress report.  Tomorrow is Q’s infamous L.K.D.S (Lactic Kamikaze Death Session for those asking).

Beowulf sent the following response:-

‘Nice knowing you Ollie’ and ‘bring a sick bucket’.

And on that bombshell ………………………
