Some decent training again over the past few days and feeling happy about the progress albeit well under in terms of volume.
I think last weeks bug hit me more than I realised, especially the beginning of this week when I had to put in some 1 minute pieces to raise blood volume. EPOC’s on the 70% work were higher than they should have been and some sore legs have meant backing off somewhat 1) As the overload may have been just a tad too much and 2) I have mentioned before about more lab testing this week so fresh (ish) legs needed.
Yesterday distance was dropped to 15km and I got a session complete during a busy schedule late morning. Took 90 sec breaks every 5km which helped the EPOC with the pace pretty standard staying as cool as I could under the fan – still a bit of a slog though and was pleased I didn’t have to do any further. A 1 min 2k pace blast at the end ensured a bit more blood volume was forced out.
Late afternoon was a weights session focusing on upper body as the quads were still trashed with DOMS. An enjoyable session and my under used ‘pushing’ are getting stronger for sure.
Today was hit and miss. Planned to train, then changed my mind mid morning, then changed again on getting home. The reality was – got home home after a busy morning teaching non stop and went to bed. I figured if I sleep for half an hour or so I will pop a light 10km in the legs on waking, if not then no dramas as I obviously need the rest.
2 and a half hours later I woke up (and only because the dogs were barking!) – so a nice rest day it is then.
A few more metres to bash this weekend. Gas exchange testing tomorrow at the Q Lab and then a little play on Sunday with the Boss.
