Time to peak

23 November 2013

It’s been a funny old week.  Work has been busy which has not allowed me to train as I would have wanted but to be honest I think it has worked in my favour.

As we are holding on to part of the peak from 1 month ago I have been conscious about burning out and then peaking again too early and not being able to hold it before the British.  Because of that, Q introduced more distance work looking at long term development with the odd livener thrown in to hold onto some speed.

However this week (much the same as last) I have only done a couple of sessions on the erg.  Work has left me too tired to do anything constructive plus I figured the rest would do me good as I have felt off for the past few weeks both mentally and physically.

I hit the Challenge Series [6344m] on Monday night having put it off for most of the day.  It was a really half arsed effort and I didn’t want to commit from the first stroke right until the last. I excepted what I got and saw it as a tick in the box to keep me as close to the top of the league as possible.

A trip to the weights room on Tuesday gave me bad DOMS for the rest of the week and only managed a 10k on Wednesday morning and 12k on Friday afternoon.

Like last Saturday (which resulted in a 4x750m PB) I went into today’s red speed session slightly unsure of what could happen. A short, sharp aggressive attack at some 1 minute pieces saw another PB which really has pleased me given the lack of work over the past 2 weeks.

I think the rest has done me good and we now have 10 days or so to hit some hard training and get back into the red ready for a peak and attack at the British Championships in 2 weeks.

Below sums up the next week or so:-
