Tired, bruised and battered – Peaked again

1 December 2013

The final week of pushing is now complete before we head to Wales next weekend for the 2013 British Championships.

As expected some tough sessions with some unexpected results both good and bad. To some degree I wasn’t overly concerned about any slow red sessions as long as I was achieving the desired training effect and forcing adaptation.

Mondays 750’s ended up coming apart spectacularly in the final rep still feeling the effect of Saturdays 1 minute blasts in the legs.  The tired legs themed continued into the week as the squat weight was slightly limited the night before 4x1k at race pace.  These went through evenly paced but legs were so locally fatigued it limited my heart rate in the final reps from reaching it’s expected top end. AKA legs trashed.

Some light 11km pieces on alternate days and some upper body weights prevented too much over cooking before hitting the final piece on Friday.  I opted to change my training location and met Tim Hughes at my old hunting ground – The Commando Training Centre Royal Marines for an extra testosterone driven blast. It seemed to work and tired legs became yesterdays news as I PB’d the classic 8x500m speed piece with relatively decent control.  Recovery was good too and felt pretty sharp and speedy throughout.

As for today, a light 30 minute recovery piece will suffice after a day of rest yesterday. Next week I will enjoy a taper with limited work and a few little liveners to retain blood volume.

A bit disappointed to see the entry list much less than in previous years but then this is just another step on route to Boston 2014.

See you in Cardiff.
