During my time in League One football, one thing stood out very quickly.
Talent wasn’t the issue.
We had players who had come through academies at Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham.
Technically excellent.
On paper, far better than most at that level.
But something was missing.
Attitude.
Work ethic.
Trust.
Then there were others.
Players who had also come through big clubs but hadn’t quite made it at the top.
Less natural ability.
But completely different mindset.
They trained harder.
They did the extras.
They looked after themselves.
Sleep, recovery, hydration, preparation.
They were consistent.
Reliable.
Trusted.
If you were building a team…
You knew exactly which group you’d pick.
This isn’t new.
Simon Sinek talks about this with SEAL Team 6 story.
They would take a medium performer with high trust over a high performer with low trust.
Every time.
Because performance without trust is a risk.
And talent without attitude is unreliable.
I saw it first-hand.
The players with the most ability weren’t always the ones driving the team forward.
In many cases, they were the ones holding it back.
“Talent will get you noticed. Attitude determines whether you last.”
And this goes far beyond football.
In leadership teams, in businesses, in high-pressure environments…
You see the same pattern.
People with capability.
But without the standards, the discipline or the consistency to sustain it.
And more often than not, it shows up in how they look after themselves.
Because attitude isn’t just how you train.
It’s how you live.
How you recover.
How you prepare.
How you manage pressure.
“If you don’t trust someone to look after themselves, you can’t trust them under pressure.”
At Warrior Wellness Movement, this is where we focus.
Not just performance.
Not just output.
But the behaviours that sit underneath it.
Because that’s what determines whether someone is reliable when it matters.
So the question is simple.
In your team…
Who are you relying on?
The most talented…
Or the most trusted?
