Blog from Tuesday
I took an enforced rest day yesterday. Saturday’s 4x750m antics took its toll on Sunday and Monday the cold was still lingering with a bit too much force for my liking at this stage so close to racing.
With a good night sleep under my belt and feeling more clear today I hit some short sharp intervals. As per usual wasn’t sure where it would go not being 100% and decided to play it by ear. I had an idea having done this session a few weeks back and as usual settled into a 5km warm up.
6×1 (1r)
It’s a short sharp session and is preferred to the other speed work we do. Although it stings a bit at least it is over nice and quick. My goals were to be consistent and try to ride a high rate with comfort, control and power.
It was the first time I have rowed in front of a mirror (face on) for some time and actually found myself slumping and looking tight in the shoulders. I tried to amend this and look more comfortable and relax the shoulders with a longer more fluid stroke.

Reasonably happy although not as consistent as I wanted and had too much in the tank for the last set. However, rating high felt more efficient and fluid especially with the correction of dropping my shoulders and lengthening the stroke. Not massively powerful in the last set but enough to hold and squeeze the numbers down. Mentally strong (as it is so short) and well controlled even at the end – no antics needed.
4km bike cool down.
Overall happy but some work to be done. Still monitoring head cold – hopefully on the way out now, far less snotty.
