No regrets – 1km TT

10 February 2013

Having felt a bit off yesterday I rested and moved the row to this morning.

Long story short.

I warmed up and felt very good with limited soreness anywhere and legs feeling nice.  The bursts felt nice and I extended them just a few more seconds than usual and rowed out an extra 600m or so before the break.

I had a strict plan that I said out loud whilst pacing around and gearing myself up for this one, it was to be very aggressive.

  • break the row into 5x200m
  • go off hard
  • settle to 1.27 pace at the first 200m
  • see the second set through strict at 1.27 with light handle pressure keeping the rate up
  • take the third 200m with aggression and don’t let up
  • 400m to 200m keep it strict keep the rate up and don’t lose your bottle – power
  • 200m to home – hang on for dear life!
  • no regrets – I will PB this one.

And that is how it went – sort of.  To tell you the truth I stopped looking at the screen at 500m and had a rhythm so kept it.  1.27’s were getting heavier so I had to put arms and back in around half way which was fine.  The odd look to the screen to double check then maximum effort from 300m ish which was about 1.27 anyway!

Really well paced I thought as I locked up in the last 10 -15 strokes.  Took me 30 minutes to recover, the lactic build up around 20 seconds after stopping was horrible – had to walk/paddle for an age!  Felt very sick too.

So all done, no more pain until this time next week when I will row my race with stacks of aggression and balls – no surrender, this time its make or break.  I am going in hard for this one.
