The licence to be lazy

Blog from 28th February

Today I felt like I had nothing to prove nor did I want to as I rowed a modest 2.5km.

I just needed some points on the board to keep the lead at the top of the Men’s Hwt 30-39 Challenge Series.

Don’t get me wrong I had toyed with the idea of attempting a stonking time but came to the conclusion (this week) that my heart (and body) wasn’t in it and the was no requirement what so ever to push myself.

I even cut the warm up down to a 15 minute barely UT2 paddle and put 1 race pace burst at the end just as a livener.

The plan was to set off and then just sit and take what ever time I got for some points. I was in no frame of mind to even go near, as Q now calls it ‘my special place’.

I set off rating around 26-28 for the first 1km around 1.38.

The second km bought it on to 1.37’s and lifted the rate slightly to just under 30.

Then put a squeeze on the last 500m a fraction just to bring the average down. The thought of going for it in the last 500m didn’t even cross my mind which I wasn’t surprised about.

Finished up and headed of for a cool down on the bike and then shower.

With next months CS 2km in the bag, a 16 minute 19 second un peaked effort in April and a chance to practice some 500’s in May that should be enough to win this season.
