Most people accept pressure as part of life. Very few stop to ask what it’s quietly costing them.
Pressure isn’t the problem.
In fact, I’d argue it’s often part of the reason people succeed.
Pressure can sharpen your focus.
It can help you grow.
It can bring out your best.
Whether you’re leading a business, managing a team, building a career or raising a family, pressure is part of modern life.
The real question isn’t whether you’re under pressure.
It’s what that pressure is leaving behind.
One late night won’t make much difference.
Neither will missing one gym session.
Or grabbing a takeaway because you’ve had a long day.
On their own, those decisions are largely insignificant.
The problem is that they rarely happen in isolation.
One late night becomes three.
Three workouts become none.
Recovery becomes another job for another day.
The small withdrawals begin to accumulate.
At Warrior Wellness Movement, one of the most common conversations we have isn’t about motivation.
People don’t usually tell me they don’t know what to do.
They tell me they can’t seem to do it consistently anymore.
They wonder where their discipline has gone.
They blame themselves.
But I don’t think motivation is usually the problem.
I think they’re trying to perform from an account that’s been overdrawn for years.
Imagine trying to run a business while making withdrawals from your bank account every day without replacing what you’ve spent.
You might not notice at first.
The balance would still look healthy.
But eventually, every decision becomes more difficult because the reserves have gone.
Your health works in much the same way.
Every poor night’s sleep.
Every missed opportunity to recover.
Every week where work takes priority over movement.
Every period of sustained pressure without enough restoration.
They’re all small withdrawals.
None of them are particularly damaging on their own.
But together, over months and years, they create something much bigger.
That’s what I call Capability Debt.
Not because pressure is bad.
But because repeated withdrawals without restoration eventually reduce your ability to perform.
That’s why so many people wake up one day convinced they’ve become less motivated.
Less disciplined.
Or simply older.
In reality, they may just be living with years of accumulated Capability Debt.
That’s a very different problem.
And it requires a very different conversation.
One of the reasons I created the Capability Debt Score was to help people recognise that accumulation before it quietly affects every area of their life.
It takes about five minutes to complete and provides a snapshot of where your physical, mental, emotional and recovery capacity currently sit.
Sometimes the most valuable thing isn’t the score itself.
It’s finally seeing what has been accumulating beneath the surface.
If you’ve been reading these newsletters for a while, you’ll know this idea sits at the heart of everything we do at Warrior Wellness Movement.
It’s also explored in much greater depth throughout The High Performance Operator because understanding the problem is always the first step towards changing it.
So before you move on with your day, ask yourself one simple question.
What am I doing each day and week to restore the capacity I’m constantly withdrawing?
If you’re curious about the answer, you’ll find the free Capability Debt Score on the home page of this website.
