Over 40 hours of travelling and 4 flights from 5 countries, finally I arrived home last Friday and I have to say it feels damn good!
I enjoyed a few beers over the weekend, but kept a lid on going crazy. A few days with the re-introduction of some fresh vegetables and fats have bought my energy levels back up nicely. For 4 nights now I have slept right through and felt fresh on waking – something I have completely forgotten over the past year, in particular the last 5 months.
Training wise I have done nothing since last Wednesday where I managed some 1RM testing before departing and my last farewell session in the sauna. It was tough and far from ideal attempting 4 lifts in over 40 degrees, back to back for 90 minutes on 4 hours sleep (CNS pretty trashed before I started). However after 8 weeks Mickey Mouse strength training and without a taper week, I stuck 10kg on my squat and 5kg on both over head press and bench. Deadlift however wouldn’t budge and that was when I called it a day.
My back didn’t thank me for it either once the 40 hour travelling started.
The plan now is to freestyle some hypertrophy training for 3 weeks from home and try and pop in the odd erg as I still have a glimmer of hope of pulling a 500 at the Devon Champs in September.

Other than that, rest, relax, family time and some quality eating.
Stay lucky champs.
Welcome home! Take care of your back.
Cheers Greg
