How to win back your gains in 24hrs

25 September 2015

Today I broke the rules of no maximum sessions on consecutive days and no rowing on consecutive days. The plan had been to attack the erg at the weekend, but I’m not sure if I will get a chance with a few things planned. Plus I wanted to absolutely destroy myself after yesterday’s poor showing.

First up today was to finish peak week strength work with the over head press which caused me the issues last Friday. After a decent agility warm up I took it on and altered my form just a fraction to ensure the spine wasn’t becoming too lordotic. I lost a rep or 2 but was happy to hit my target and move on with some assistance work.

A few hours later I was back in the gym for another warm up and with the plan to put maximum overload on the body ready for a 2 day rest. The warm up was horrid, really sluggish and the piece split felt impossible to pull. I really wasn’t sure what to do and whether or not to just bin the session off until Monday. Still, I set off with the goal of just doing 2 for a blast, but after 2 I thought
I might as well make it 4. After 4 I decided to bury myself for 5 and call it a day with everything so heavy and no zip in the stroke whatsoever. I unstrapped and clambered off in the interval completely spent, but found myself strapping back in with 20 seconds to go and the rest is history.

I really did think I was done after 4 as I was on the edge from rep 2 and having to work for everything. I’m really chuffed after yesterday to be back to where I left off; in fact it’s actually 0.1 /500m quicker so I’m back on track. Ok so it’s still not 8, but I’m building.
